Jamie Lee Curtis, Kate Hudson, and Sydney Sweeney Lead an Inspiring Night at Variety’s Power of Women

In a dazzling celebration of female strength and purpose, Variety’s Power of Women 2025 event lit up the Beverly Hills Hotel on Wednesday night. Hosted by comedian Iliza Shlesinger, the evening honored Jamie Lee Curtis, Kate Hudson, Sydney Sweeney, Nicole Scherzinger, and Wanda Sykes — five extraordinary women whose work continues to uplift others both on and off the screen.

Hollywood’s most influential women gathered under one roof for an evening that was not just about fame, but about purpose. Presented by Lifetime, the Variety Power of Women gala recognized leaders who have used their platforms to bring change to their communities and inspire millions worldwide.

The event kicked off with a witty and energetic monologue by host Iliza Shlesinger, followed by opening remarks from Variety’s co-editors-in-chief Cynthia Littleton and Ramin Setoodeh, as well as outgoing publisher Michelle Sobrino-Stearns.

The night’s first honoree, Kate Hudson, was introduced by her longtime friend and Oscar-winning actress Octavia Spencer. In her heartfelt speech, Hudson reflected on motherhood and the importance of compassion through creativity. “Hudson, a proud mother of three, shared that watching her daughter’s fearless spirit reminds her daily of the power and potential every young girl holds.. “Power isn’t about applause — it’s about kindness, empathy, and helping others find their light.”

Next, Sydney Sweeney, introduced by Sharon Stone, drew inspiration from her upcoming role as boxing legend Christy Martin in the film Christy. “Sweeney reflected that she deeply relates to the feeling of being underestimated — a challenge she believes has fueled her determination to prove herself. “Christy taught me that strength isn’t always loud — sometimes it’s about standing up after every fall.”

The evening continued with emotional moments as Olympic champion Aly Raisman received the Variety Courage Award presented by Purina. Her speech touched on survivors of abuse and the power of speaking out: “To anyone who feels unseen — you matter, and your voice matters.”

Comedian and actress Wanda Sykes, presented by Jane Fonda, delivered a powerful message on social responsibility and women’s impact. “When women thrive, the community thrives,” she said, addressing the challenges faced by single mothers due to government cuts in SNAP benefits. Her words drew loud applause from the audience.

Nicole Scherzinger, honored by Eva Longoria, shared how her involvement with the Special Olympics has reshaped her definition of courage. “Scherzinger expressed that real power lies in inspiring and uplifting others, not in chasing fame. She added that the greatest strength comes from showing up with sincerity and compassion.”

Closing the evening, Jamie Lee Curtis delivered an emotionally charged speech in support of Children’s Hospital Los Angeles. She highlighted the struggles faced by patients amid funding cuts and immigration fears. “Every nurse, every mother, every child at that hospital shows what real power looks like,” Curtis said passionately. “We must protect these spaces of hope.”

The event ended on a standing ovation — a fitting tribute to women whose actions echo far beyond Hollywood’s spotlight.
