Coyotes (2025) – Horror-Comedy Thriller Brings Fear to the Hollywood Hills
The new horror-comedy thriller Coyotes made its world premiere at Fantastic Fest on September 20, 2025, before hitting U.S. theaters on October 3. Directed and edited by Colin Minihan, the film blends dark humor with suspense as a family trapped in their Hollywood Hills home faces a terrifying siege from a pack of relentless coyotes.
Starring real-life couple Justin Long and Kate Bosworth, alongside Mila Harris, Katherine McNamara, Brittany Allen, Keir O’Donnell, and Norbert Leo Butz, the movie delivers both satirical and gruesome moments in a fast-paced 92-minute runtime.
A Survival Story With a Twist
At its core, Coyotes tells the story of Scott (Justin Long), his wife Liv (Kate Bosworth), and their teenage daughter Chloe (Mila Harris). Their quiet life in the Hills takes a sinister turn when wild coyotes surround their home, forcing the family into a desperate fight for survival. As the situation escalates, the film introduces a mix of quirky neighbors, social media influencers, and unexpected deaths that add to its darkly comedic tone.
The screenplay, written by Tad Daggerhart and Nick Simon from a story developed with Daniel Meersand, mixes satire with horror tropes. Bosworth reportedly played a key role in convincing Long to join the project after initially turning it down due to scheduling conflicts.
Behind the Scenes
Produced by Gramercy Park Media and Source Management Production, with financing from Capstone Studios and Magnetic Labs, the movie was filmed in Bogotá, Colombia, between November and December 2024. Brittany Allen, who also appears in the cast, composed the score, giving the film its unsettling yet playful soundscape.
Distribution rights were acquired by Aura Entertainment for the U.S., with Signature Entertainment handling the U.K. and Ireland rollout.
Critical Response
Early reviews have been mixed. On Rotten Tomatoes, 71% of critics gave Coyotes a positive rating out of 38 reviews. William Bibbiani of The Wrap described it as a “missed opportunity,” noting that while the premise had potential, its execution lacked thematic depth. RogerEbert.com’s Brian Tallerico rated it two out of four, criticizing the CGI coyotes as unrealistic, though he acknowledged the film’s entertaining deaths and decent ensemble performances.
Despite its criticisms, the film has sparked curiosity among fans of offbeat horror, with many praising its balance of comedy and gore.
Fans searching for the latest Coyotes movie update will find this film offering a unique twist on survival horror, blending satirical humor with creature-feature thrills. With its star-studded cast and festival buzz, the film is already carving out a space in the 2025 horror lineup.
