Vera Farmiga and Patrick Wilson Return in The Conjuring: Last Rites
The latest installment of the iconic horror franchise, The
Conjuring: Last Rites, is set to hit theaters in the United States on
September 5, 2025. Directed by Michael Chaves, the film reunites Patrick Wilson
and Vera Farmiga as paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren, continuing
the story from the 2021 sequel, The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It.
Based on the real-life Smurl haunting case, the screenplay
is penned by Ian Goldberg, Richard Naing, and David Leslie Johnson-McGoldrick,
with a story co-authored by Johnson-McGoldrick and franchise creator James Wan.
The film also stars Mia Tomlinson as Judy Warren, the Warrens’ daughter, and
Ben Hardy as her boyfriend, Tony Spera, alongside Rebecca Calder and Elliot
Cowan portraying the Smurl family.
Development of the project began soon after the release of The
Devil Made Me Do It, with Chaves expressing interest in exploring a new
chapter for the Warrens. By early 2024, Chaves was confirmed to return as
director, while Goldberg and Naing finalized the screenplay. James Wan and
Peter Safran reprise their roles as producers, ensuring continuity with the
broader Conjuring Universe.
Filming took place in London from September 10 to November
22, 2024. The production saw Benjamin Wallfisch compose the score, taking over
from Joseph Bishara, who had previously scored the original trilogy and the
spin-off Annabelle: Creation.
The Conjuring: Last Rites marks the ninth and
reportedly final installment of the main Conjuring series, promising to deliver
the high-stakes supernatural horror fans have come to expect. Warner Bros.
Pictures will distribute the film across U.S. theaters.
