Naomi Osaka Reaches US Open Semifinals 2025 |
Naomi Osaka's comeback: Beats Muchová to reach US Open semifinals
Japanese tennis star Naomi Osaka defeated Karolina Muchová 6-4, 7-6(3) at Flushing Meadows on Wednesday night to reach the US Open semifinals. Osaka's comeback is significant because it was her first major quarterfinal appearance since the 2021 Australian Open.
Osaka put pressure on her opponent from the start of the match. Muchová showed an impressive 83 percent success on her serve, while Osaka won 60 percent of her first serve points. Osaka took the set by overcoming a triple set point after both players exchanged service games in the first set.
In the second set, Muchová's fatigue and a left knee injury made it easier for Osaka, but Osaka didn't let any opportunities slip away. Osaka held on to win the tiebreaker with an aggressive forehand and sharp baseline play.
The victory maintains Osaka's Grand Slam quarterfinal record. She has never lost a quarterfinal at a hard-court Grand Slam. Osaka also has two US Open (2018, 2020) and two Australian Open (2019, 2021) titles to her name. After giving birth to her daughter in 2023, Osaka has gradually regained her best form and has been playing brilliantly in the draw this year as the fifth seed.
Meanwhile, American Amanda Anisimova also surprised fans. After losing 6-0, 6-0 in the Wimbledon final in June, Anisimova showed her strength this time by defeating No. 2 Iga Svetlik 6-4, 6-3. Now the semi-final between Osaka and Ansimova promises to be an exciting and fast-paced match, in which both players can put the fans at Flushing Meadows on the edge of their seats.
Osaka's success not only marks her comeback but also an exciting moment for fans in Pakistan and around the world at the US Open. The semi-final match against Ansimova will be an opportunity to test Osaka's consistency, strategy and game skills. The outcome of this match will reveal the final chances and a new story in the biggest tennis event of the year.
